What differentiates Microsoft Teams from other similar products?
Its integration with Office 365 is its killer feature: editing documents live during calls saves hours per week. Compared to Zoom or Slack, its permissions management is more granular (e.g., you can restrict channel access by department). However, it consumes more RAM than its competitors... on older laptops like those used by our tech support team, that's a problem
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
Instant syncing between devices. I can start a meeting on my phone when I get out of the taxi and resume it on my desktop without losing quality. Persistent chat is also golden: I found an eight-month-old message with a fix for a SharePoint bug. Be careful with storage, though: in 2023, we had to purge old files because it saturated the corporate OneDrive
What do you dislike most about this product?
Notification management is chaotic. Even though you set "mention only," you sometimes miss critical alerts because they get buried among trivial messages. The web version also lags behind the desktop app (e.g., it doesn't support custom emojis until 5 minutes later). Our trading team almost lost a deal because of this
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
If you already use Office 365, it's unbeatable. But negotiate the E3/E5 license: the basic version limits key features like retention policies. For remote teams, learn how to use shortcuts (Ctrl+Shift+M to mute is a lifesaver). And keep an eye on your bandwidth: in our Bogotá office, we prioritize QoS to avoid outages during peak hours
Pros
- Helps Innovate
- Continually Improving Product
- Reliable
- Performance Enhancing
