Powerful and Reliable SD-WAN Solution

Likeliness to Recommend

10 /10

What differentiates Cisco SD-WAN from other similar products?

Highly scalable and secure Strong cloud and SaaS optimisation: automatic best-path for cloud/SaaS traffic, multi-cloud connectivity baked in. Broad scalability and flexible transport support: works over MPLS, broadband, LTE/5G, large fabric sizes

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

My favorite aspect of Cisco SD-WAN is its centralized management and visibility. The vManage dashboard makes it easy to control policies, monitor performance, and troubleshoot across all sites from one place — saving time and simplifying complex WAN operations.

What do you dislike most about this product?

The biggest drawback is its complexity and licensing model. Initial setup and policy configuration can be challenging for new users, and the licensing structure is often confusing and costly compared to competitors.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Define clear business intent and requirements — Understand what you want the SD-WAN solution to achieve (e.g., cloud/SaaS performance, branch consolidation, cost-reduction) and map that to the transport, policy and segmentation needs. Ensure your underlay is well-designed — The physical and transport network must support what you expect the overlay to do (e.g., multiple links, good latency/bandwidth, redundancy).

Pros

  • Helps Innovate
  • Client's Interest First
  • Includes Product Enhancements
  • Continually Improving Product

Enterprise-Grade Security Built-In Robust Policy Control and Segmentation Extensive Visibility and Analytics Cloud On-Ramp for Multi-Cloud Optimization Deep Integration with Cisco Ecosystem Flexible Deployment Options

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

My favorite aspect of Cisco SD-WAN is its deep integration of security and networking in a single, unified platform. This convergence allows organizations to manage routing, segmentation, firewalling, and cloud access all from one place (vManage), which simplifies operations and enhances both performance and security. It’s particularly valuable in distributed environments where maintaining consistent policy enforcement and visibility across all sites—including cloud and mobile users—is critical.

What do you dislike most about this product?

1. Complex Initial Setup 2. Steep Learning Curve 3. Licensing Complexity 4. Cost 5. Limited Cloud-Native Features 6. Bugs and Stability Issues 7. Slow Support Response

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Assess Business Needs First – Make sure SD-WAN aligns with your performance, scalability, and security goals. Plan for Training – Invest time in learning Cisco SD-WAN architecture (vBond, vSmart, vManage). Start with a Pilot – Test it in a small environment before full deployment. Understand Licensing – Clarify DNA licensing models and costs upfront. Check Compatibility – Ensure it integrates well with your existing network and cloud apps. Monitor Updates – Stay on supported software versions to avoid bugs. Use Cisco Validated Designs (CVDs) – Follow Cisco’s best practices for deployment. Prepare for Complexity – Consider professional
