What differentiates GitLab Ultimate from other similar products?

For departments like mine, where agile processes is our bread and butter, Gitlab's integrated agile and portfolio planning sets it apart from other Git software platforms. Having agile and portfolio planning integrated within Gitlab has helped us to adopt a standard template for streamlining internal software development workflow, and made it straight-forward tracking our work processes from ideation to eventual software product deployment.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

Gitlab's Continuous integration infrastructure ( Ci ) are the best of any Git platform I have used. Gitlab has helped my department to embrace the automation of CI processes. Leading to more efficient verification ,integration and automated testing of our codes.

What do you dislike most about this product?

Due to the avalanche of features available on Gitlab, it can get very complex to navigate or use for new users. I am of the opinion that support for users can be more readily available without my department needing to have to create its own dedicated support resource for employees, which is currently the case for us at my organisation.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

From my own professional experience, I can say that adopting a platform like Gitlab can really go a long way towards helping a development team / department to cut down on development time and cost.

What differentiates GitLab Ultimate from other similar products?

Gitlab provides a great tool for CI CD and devsecops pipeline. It has all type of customisation options. Great UI and works on mobile as well. Running and managing projects is quite easy in gitlab.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

Gitlab is an one in all platform for devsecops which includes repository hosting, issue tracking, CI CD pipelines and even project management upto some extent. Robust and clean UI. Branch protection and user permissions.

What do you dislike most about this product?

UI is little slower may be because of loading of multiple things on same page. Some more shift left integrations could be helpful as enterprise tool. Lot of good features need paid plans so may not work for individual or small group.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

You can use gitlab as starter but not recommended to match multiple tools in the pipeline. If you use gitlab, use its container registry and other features as well.

What differentiates GitLab Ultimate from other similar products?

Beyond just being a code hosting platform, Gitlab does provide extensive project management functions , like issue tracking, roadmaps, sprint planning tools and even Kanban boards. This makes Gitlab very ideal for managing entire lifecycles of our software development process.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

The strongest aspect of Gitlab for me, has got to be its emphasis on security. By providing features like access controls, in-built security scanning , regular security updates etc . Gitlab ensures a secured environment for software code and data. This is very vital in the present reality of today, due to potential security threats.

What do you dislike most about this product?

Gitlab's interface is comparatively slower than what is obtainable with close substitutes like Github and Bitbucket. Apart from being slow, Gitlab is also not intuitive and this does create problems for beginner users.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

For new teams considering deploying Gitlab, I will advice that they take advantage of its built-in continuous integration / continuous deployment capabilities for automated testing and code deployment purposes.
