Hotel distribution infrastructure was built around established booking channels, but the expansion of AI agents into hotel booking is exposing limitations in existing systems. Different AI platforms interact with hotel websites and booking capabilities in different ways, creating inconsistent access to rates, inventory, and reservations. As integration requirements evolve, hotels face growing complexity in supporting multiple AI channels while preserving direct booking options and avoiding unnecessary dependence on intermediaries.

The CIO's responsibility is not simply to make hotel inventory accessible to AI agents, but to ensure that AI platforms can reliably interact with booking systems while preserving flexibility in how reservations are fulfilled. This requires reusable distribution capabilities that support channel-specific integrations, manage authorized access, coordinate booking transactions, and maintain direct booking paths. Continuous testing and monitoring are necessary to identify failures, respond to platform changes, and improve booking performance.

As AI booking channels expand and their requirements continue to evolve, hotels should avoid relying on isolated integrations or assuming existing distribution connections will support every platform. Instead, CIOs should validate agent access across priority channels, establish ownership of AI channel integration management, leverage existing CRS and distribution services before building custom connections, and develop iterative testing practices to maintain reliable booking functionality and preserve distribution flexibility.
