Mobile Device Management Vendors Innovate to Keep Up with Rapidly Evolving Mobile Technology and Corporate Culture

Info-Tech Research Group names AirWatch, SOTI and Zenprise as Mobile Device Management market Champions.  Their ability to support today’s mobile devices and adapt to manage the unexpected challenges of tomorrow put them on top.

London, ON January 23, 2012 – Info-Tech Research Group’s Mobile Device Management (MDM) Vendor Landscape report names AirWatch, SOTI and Zenprise as market Champions.   With rapidly evolving mobile technologies and more and more employees bringing their own devices to work, MDM vendors need to be on their toes and able to adapt quickly just to keep up with demand.

“Mobile technology is changing quickly.  MDM used to be about security and managing a variety of corporate-owned devices, but these functions are now the expected baseline,” said Mark Tauschek, Lead Research Analyst, Info-Tech Research Group. “Vendors need to continually innovate in areas like application management and personal device support and prove their adaptability to manage the unexpected challenges of tomorrow or they won’t be successful.”

AirWatch earned high marks for their advanced feature set offering many features that other vendors do not, such as sophisticated browser control, location services and complex reporting.  AirWatch began targeting large companies, but their software-as-a-service options and low price point make them ideal for small and medium businesses as well.  This market Champion was also named the Value Index Leader indicating the ‘best bang for your buck.’

One of the few MDM vendors located outside of Silicon Valley, Canadian based SOTI is another Champion in the report.  Their top-notch helpdesk features, intuitive interface and advanced application management features keep them competitive.  With a strong history in Windows-based ruggedized devices, SOTI is ideal for Windows Mobile fleets and verticals, but are making good progress in general MDM and according to Info-Tech Research Group, deserve more mindshare in the space.

Zenprise, another market Champion, is a quickly expanding company with an innovative MDM solution.  Zenprise Mobile Manager offers unique capabilities such as context-sensitive policies that can be activated only in certain time periods and locations.   Their help desk capabilities are top-notch as well with proactive automatic troubleshooting and integrated knowledge base.  These unique features along with strong, yet flexible security options do come at a price, but those with the budget may find the bells and whistles too good to pass up.

Boxtone and MobileIron were both listed as Innovators in the report.  Boxtone boasts one of the most complete sets of features reviewed in the landscape and can be deployed on top of other MDM solutions for businesses with complex needs.

MobileIron just got into the MDM space with their MobileIron Virtual Smartphone Platform.  According to the report, this current solution is powerful and flexible with a strong strategic focus.  MobileIron is one to watch as they are likely to continue innovating as the market evolves.
