Info-Tech Research Group Warns Businesses to Trust in Legacy Software Modernization Vendors or Suffer the Consequences

Author(s): Gord Harrison

London, ON - July 5th, 2011 - Info-Tech Research Group’s recently published Legacy Software Modernization Vendor Landscape report ranks BluePhoenix, Transoft and ATERAS as market ‘Champions’ and urges businesses to take the first steps towards modernizing their aging systems before it’s too late.

“The reality is legacy systems are expensive to run and left unattended the costs can spiral,” said Randy Hearn, Senior Analyst with Info-Tech Research Group.  “The vendors in this landscape have demonstrated they can help organizations take the reins and proactively modernize their aging systems and also overcome a gap left by a generation of developers who’ve traditionally maintained these systems and are now retiring.”

According to the report, all vendors agree that BluePhoenix is their biggest competition.   But with over twenty years of experience to back them up, Transoft and ATERAS also have the proven track records organizations look for in a legacy software modernization vendor and they join BluePhoenix as market Champions.

Semantic Designs is another established player in the market.  They have very strong credentials, but run into perception problems with their slow ramp up time.  Their ability to rapidly build custom tools for virtually any situation with their DMS Factory is an attractive benefit for some organizations and places them in the ‘Market Pillar’ category.

‘Emerging Players’ in the legacy software modernization market include some of the younger vendors, FreeSoft, TSRI and Make Technologies.  They don’t have as many years of experience as the older vendors, but according to Info-Tech Research Group, they each have some individual strengths that make them very viable options.
