Get Ready for the Storm: 5 Emerging Technologies that Will Change the World as We Know It

Author(s): Gord Harrison

Info-Tech Research Group presents a series of Info-Tech Exchange events across the US with the goal of educating IT professionals about the big 5 IT trends and how to prepare for the inevitable sea change that will take place in the next 5 to 10 years.

London, ON, April 18, 2012 – Technology experts from Info-Tech Research Group are hitting the road for the Info-Tech Exchange event series to educate North American IT professionals on what they call the “Perfect Storm of IT Trends.”  These trends include Mobility, Social Media, Cloud, Big Data and Security.  Info-Tech Research Group says that these trends represent the biggest force of change on the traditional IT department since the proliferation of the Personal Computer in the Eighties and Nineties.

“Individually, these five trends may not look overly disruptive, but when viewed together as a collective whole, you will see the perfect storm of technology trends brewing,” said Davin Juusola, Vice President of Research and Development, Info-Tech Research Group.  “For CIOs and technology decision makers, these trends represent both an opportunity and a risk.  Over the next five to ten years, CIOs are going to have to dramatically change what they are delivering and how they are delivering it in order to remain relevant and effective to their organizations.”

Some insights from the upcoming event:

  • 77% of all CIOs said that the number one issue they are grappling with right now is adapting their environments to support the bring your own device movement.
  • Social search is taking over and Info-Tech believes that by 2013 it will dominate 70% of the search market.
  • Info-Tech estimates there will be 20 to 30 times more digital data to manage by 2020 and that Big Data will become the technology that separates the strong from the weak and something that will be top of mind for businesses 2-3 years from now.
  • In 2011 there was an increase of 75% of firms moving to the external cloud.
  • Organizations are being forced to rethink their security stance as a result of the Perfect Storm of Technology Trends

The next Info-Tech Exchange event will take place in Pittsburgh at PNC Park on April 24th.  To register for this free event visit http://solutions.infotech.com/PittsburghHome.html.
