REPLACING DESKTOP & NOTEBOOK PCS FOR TODAY’S WORK ENVIRONMENT

THERE’S A GOOD NEWS-bad news scenario for organizations with a fleet of aging computer systems that need to be replaced. The good news: It has never been easier to match a particular worker’s needs to a device type. The bad news: With so many platform and configuration options now available, devising a solid computer upgrade strategy can be a chore.

“It has certainly become more difficult,” says Mike Battista, senior manager at Info-Tech Research. “Traditional PCs were becoming comfortably commoditized before trends like mobility and BYOD [bring your own device] came in to mess it all up.” In short, more choices today mean more decisions. To match computers to users, companies now must form requirements at a more granular level, Battista says.
