What is Selenium?
Selenium automates browsers. That's it! What you do with that power is entirely up to you. Primarily it is for automating web applications for testing purposes, but is certainly not limited to just that. Boring web-based administration tasks can (and should) also be automated as well.

How to Get Started with Selenium
Likeliness to Recommend
What differentiates Selenium from other similar products?
Selenium Grid enables corresponding execution across several browsers and machines. It provides seamless integration capabilities with DevOps and CI/CD pipelines. It integrates with other testing software for efficient reporting. Unlike no-code tools, Selenium permits complete control of scripting. It also supports diverse third-party libraries for API testing and reporting.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
Selenium covers one of the largest open-source communities. I like its proficiency to work across multi-browser and support cross-platform. It has proved a game-changer for scaling test automation. It helps us to carry on various tests across different browsers and machines simultaneously, in this way minimizing execution time. Its seamless integration is commendable with third-party tools, making it easy to include automated tests.
What do you dislike most about this product?
Selenium is largely dependent on implicit and explicit waits to deal with dynamic content. In case we are unable to deal with them accurately, the test fails due to the unpreparedness of the elements. The availability of an auto-waiting machine would make the software more stable.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
For a better structure, such as test execution and reporting, combine Selenium with a third party. To avoid flaky tests, get an understanding of the explicit waits. By following all these recommendations, one can take the best out of it. It is very powerful yet demands initial efforts for its setup and maintenance.
Pros
- Reliable

In its core areas, Selenium does a good job.

What differentiates Selenium from other similar products?
Because different types of browsers tend to translate web pages differently, it is very important that Selenium supports a variety of web browsers. This support for multiple web browsers is important to me, due to the need for software products created by my company to work comfortably with different web browsers. Selenium completely automates the process of testing web software on different web browsers at once, thereby saving me precious work time.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
Support for multiple programming language is another strength of Selenium. This eliminates the barrier of learning a new language , just to be able to test software .
What do you dislike most about this product?
Selenium primarily by default , is created to just work on desktop web browsers. This makes it a cumbersome experience when I try to utilize its capabilities to use it for testing on mobile devices. My workaround has been to make use of the mobile device emulator known as Appium. This comes with extra resource and maintenance cost , while not completely eliminating discrepancies in performance between an emulator and a mobile device. Secondly, except I integrate Selenium with percy or applitools, which are known visual testing tools , Selenium does not provide visual testing capabilities by default.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
For teams who do not want to be restricted to a specific programming language, in order to be able to test their software, Selenium is a software to consider. It is also ideal for teams who want their testing modules, well integrated with existing continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
Pros
- Reliable
- Performance Enhancing
- Enables Productivity
- Security Protects
