What differentiates Laserfiche from other similar products?

We found that many products are not as focused on document management but are more focused on dynamic contracts generation and e-signature solutions. Laserfiche has all the features to support those kinds of implementations, but what HLC needs is a robust, powerful document repository that leverages metadata and automations to ensure findability, streamline intake, and facilitate retention. Laserfiche meets and exceeds those needs, allowing HLC to efficiently manage our constantly growing library of over 250,000 official documents.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

HLC replaced a legacy system that we'd been using for over 15 years. That system cost considerably more, and it had very little product enhancements that were relevant to HLC's work. What I love about Laserfiche is that it addressed every possible concern we had, provided features that matched or were better than what we were accustomed to, and in the rare cases where the systems were significantly different we were still able to accomplish our goals by adjusting to the Laserfiche platform.

What do you dislike most about this product?

I wish it was free!

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

As always, do your due diligence. HLC performed a comprehensive needs assessment with all internal stakeholders, identified and evaluated numerous possible providers, then methodically eliminated the ones that did not meet our needs. In the end, we had three options that looked like they would match our requirements, but it was immediately evident that Laserfiche was miles ahead of the other providers. It was good that we were able to establish a relationship with Modified Logic, our implementation partner, nearly a year before our migration project started and at least eight months before we signed any contracts.

It offers flexible deployment options (cloud or on-premise) and industry-specific templates, making it ideal for regulated sectors like government and education.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

My favorite aspect of Laserfiche is its powerful and customizable workflow automation. It allows users to automate complex business processes without needing to code, streamlining approvals, routing, and data entry — all from within a single platform. This saves time, reduces errors, and improves overall efficiency.

What do you dislike most about this product?

What I appreciate most is how powerful Laserfiche is — but it does require some time to learn. Once you get familiar with the system, its flexibility and automation capabilities really shine, making the initial learning curve well worth it in the long run.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Start with training and a clear plan, begin small, use available templates, and consider the cloud version for more flexibility.

Workflow and Forms are so simple to create and implement.

Ease of integration between the different LF applications.

What do you dislike most about this product?

Could use some more standard workflow steps so you don't have to custom script so many steps.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Do it! While you can use custom scripting and code within Workflow and Forms, basic forms and workflows can be written very easily with the canned options. The Solutions Marketplace also offers a lot of options that you just have to tweak a bit for your exact use case.
