What differentiates Google Meet from other similar products?
As part of G Suite, Google Meet deeply integrates with other Google services like Calendar, Gmail, and Drive for simplified scheduling and file sharing during calls. This gives Google Meet an advantage with existing G Suite customers. Meet also stands out for supporting up to 250 participants per call along with live streaming capabilities. Its interface is fairly intuitive for those accustomed to Google's simple, minimalist design style. However, Meet has fewer sophisticated meeting moderation tools compared to products like Zoom or Webex. Its free tier only allows 60 minutes per meeting which is more limiting than some competitors.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
As a frequent Google user, what I most appreciate about Meet is how well it integrates with Google's other services. I can easily start calls through Google Calendar invites and have all relevant meeting documents ready from my Google Drive. The ability to share my screen and stage documents for viewing by all participants is very convenient for walking through presentations or notes. Meet's interface also feels familiar and intuitive due to my experience with other Google products - there's little learning curve. The call quality itself runs smoothly. While more limited features-wise than some rival platforms,
What do you dislike most about this product?
Limited free version - Meet's 60 minute limit on free calls is frustrating compared to more generous competitors. Fewer advanced features - Tools for moderation, breakout rooms, call recording and more lag behind rivals like Zoom and Webex. Maximum call size - 250 participants, while solid, falls short of Zoom's ability to host 500+ on a call. G Suite dependence - Meet is optimized for Google's ecosystem, making it less suitable as a standalone product. Mobile experience - The mobile app lacks some desktop features and can be glitchy or disconnected at times.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
Try Meet for free first, but be aware of the 60 minute limit on group calls if needing longer meetings. Make sure your team is using G Suite apps like Drive, Docs and Calendar to maximize integration benefits. Don't expect deep integrations with non-Google apps and services if your stack is diverse. Take advantage of real-time captioning and screen sharing, some of Meet's best features. Be prepared to pay for premium tiers if you require recordings, toll-free dial-in or larger meeting sizes. Use Meet's calendar integration to simplify scheduling and joining video calls.
