The Quest for Canada's Smartest IT Shines a Light on Canadian Productivity and IT Innovation in the Mid-Market

Author(s): Sufyan Al-Hassan

November 10th, 2011 - Info-Tech Research Group’s 2nd Annual Quest for Canada’s Smartest IT campaign celebrates the work of mid-market IT departments whose smart use of technology has impacted innovation and productivity in Canada at their gala event this month. While countless reports point to threats to Canadian productivity and innovation, The Quest has once again gone coast to coast to recognize organizations that serve as a model for technology use that rewards businesses, communities, and the planet.

“Canadian productivity rose an average of 0.7% per year between 2000 and 2008 compared with a rise of 2.6% per year in the US. The result of this increased productivity gap is that Canadians have to work longer and harder than others,” said James Alexander, Chief Enthusiasm Officer for The Quest for Canada’s Smartest IT. “We think it’s important to celebrate how Canadian firms are creating innovation through the use of technology to shine a light on how Canadians can work smarter instead of harder.”

The winners for the 2011 Canada’s Smartest and Greenest IT awards, along with a wildcard “Wow Award,” will be announced at a gala event on November 17th, 2011, at the Capital Event Theatre in Toronto. It promises to be an exciting event as nominees from across the country join with local IT practitioners, analysts, and vendors to share their stories and celebrate one another’s successes.

To register for the event (sponsored by Compugen), please visit http://www.smartest-it.ca/awards. Entrance to the gala is free with registration and $75 at the door.

The Quest for Canada's Smartest IT is an online community of practice for IT professionals. The goal of the annual contest is to recognize and reward Canadian mid-market IT departments that are using technology with purpose. These stories - along with research, best practices, case studies, and tools - are made available to members of this community so that they may connect with and learn from each other.

The Quest for Canada’s Smartest IT 2011 has been supported by IBM, Avaya, The Globe and Mail, and Samsung. For more on the campaign, visit http://www.smartest-it.ca.
