Rising Cost of Power and Customer Demand Have UPS Vendors Going Green According to Info-Tech Research Group

Author(s): Gord Harrison

London, ON, August 31, 2011 - A recent Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Vendor Landscape report published by Info-Tech Research Group, ranked Liebert/Emerson Network Power and Eaton Powerware as Champions in the UPS market. Both vendors have responded remarkably well to rising energy costs and provide their customers with solutions that meet their power needs while satisfying their budgets.

“Data centers and server rooms of all sizes face significant threats in availability of electricity in the future,” said Darin Stahl, Lead Research Analyst, Info-Tech Research Group. “We are facing a good old-fashioned supply and demand issue. And in addition to the resulting rise of energy prices, prices and penalties for carbon emissions will increase. Because of these pressures, enterprises are becoming more conscious of efficiency and are including green criteria in their evaluations of UPS vendors.”

As energy costs become more and more of an issue, businesses are looking for vendors who not only provide efficient solutions, but represent good value for money right up-front.

Liebert/Emerson Network Power finishes ahead of the pack on the Value Index and is the Overall Value Award winner. According to the report, this market Champion provides a strong global solution and support network that is highly efficient. Liebert NXL’s UPS Intelligent Eco-mode provides up to 97% efficiency by profiling load characteristics and earning off-peak times for a 3+% efficiency gain.

Eaton Powerware is a close second in the Value Index and is also recognized as a market Champion. The vendor’s Energy Saver System allows the Eaton 9395 IPS to operate at 99% efficiency, significantly reducing operating costs for businesses. This transformerless solution does require additional modules to be paralleled together to scale to the available 1100kVA size, but it’s an excellent option for those who value the decreased footprint and efficiencies in the data center that this type of solution provides.
